Promotion Devotion
January 20th, 2009
*Sigh*
I have had it with advertisements being thrown at my face in this digital cyberworld EXTRAVAGANzzaaahhhhhhh! Not cute, not fun. I, myself, HATE promoting. It completely waters down the whole charm of these networking websites. I remember when I was fairly new to MySpace. I got to have some fun getting reacquainted with old friends, and things of the sort. Now, because of my ambition to progress in the music world, I have thousands of "friends" on my list, and have lost touch with my old High School friends. AND, to top it all off, the having a bunch of friends thing doesn't even work anymore 'cause most of those people friended me for the exact same reason. Because they want someone more to listen to their music. Or they just want to advertise something. These are the same people who just comment you talkin' about "Hey, thanks for the add. Listen to my new album! _Insert huge obnoxious html image here_". I never do that. It's evil. All this fake cyberworld "love". Fack outta' here with that shit. Seriously.
Okay, okay. Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh and bitter about it. But c'mon. People are starting to advertise on Facebook now too. Some people have a Facebook JUST to advertise! Like c'mon man! Not there too! At least update your status to something more entertaining than "Buy my new song on iTunes!" once in a while, ya' know?
I think I'm going to take a few steps back with the whole social networking thing. Gonna delete a few thousand "friends." Gonna' just be straight bare regular with it all. 'Cause it's not cute when you can't communicate with the people who count anymore, or when the people who count don't pay you mind because they think you're one of those over-advertisers. Crikey.
It would be nice if people who would be interested in what you have to offer could just magically find you. I know, I'm not not in it to get rich or famous, or anything like that. I just want to share with the world what I love to do, and wish to inspire at least 1 person in a positive way. I'm hoping this blogsite could serve that purpose effectively eventually. If only sharing was easier and more genuine than slapping an ad on your page or posting a few bulletins a day...if only...
